If you've ever driven through the mountains, you know what I know. It takes about thirteen times as long to drive one mile in the mountains than it does on the plains, and your mood totally changes depending on where you're at in your drive. If you're driving through the valley, you can't wait to get to the next outlook (mountain top) so you can see the view, and if you're at the outlook, the last thing you're looking forward to is getting back in the car. You're thankful for the view when on the mountain and hopeful for a view when in the valley.
This semester, myself along with my friends Barron and Ben are leading a C-Group at our school for SALT Company (College Ministry) and we have some really amazing dudes in our group, one of whom made an awesome statement that I want to share with you. His name is Joseph (Joe) Dufoe and he is a highly motivated, knowledge-seeking person. I have been thinking about this slice of wisdom all week and it just seems to hit home every time; "This too shall pass..."
This long standing saying that we always relate to times of trouble is a great reminder that things will get better. Whatever challenges we are facing are not permanent and the hardships that come our way also come with healing. But the way Joe described this one-liner was much deeper and really got me thinking about gratitude for the current time.
The truth is that life's valley's will pass, sure, but so will its mountains. The bad things will pass, but so will the good. The feelings you have when you get that big raise will pass, the sense of accomplishment you feel when you sign a massive business deal will pass, and the 'love' you have for that new purchase will also pass. You might be thinking, "Wow... this blog is exactly what I didn't need." But this is so true. When has that pay raise, sense of accomplishment, or new purchase given you stable, never ending joy for life? Never. It too shall (and does) pass...
While this could sound like bad news, it's actually a great reminder to choose thankful! Those great feelings aren't going to last, they will pass, so be thankful that you're getting to experience them. Whatever is going on in your life, good or bad, remember that it will pass. If today is good choose thankful, if today is bad choose hopeful. Make the most of each day because whether good or bad, this too shall pass.
"This too shall pass. Not just the bad, but also the good. Choose to be thankful on the mountain and hopeful in the valley." - Joseph Dufoe
This is so true and a great reminder to be THANKFUL on those "mountain tops". Well explained Tanner! Great Job!
Love it! I choose thankful! ❤️ And Joy!
